The Position

Our client is the largest acute Trust and district general hospital in Kent (greater London area), and they are looking for Core Trainee Level and Foundation Year 2 Level Doctors in Orthopaedic Surgery who are looking to develop their career through the shared ambitions and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People with the drive to take the team forward, by ensuring the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and their staff.

Core Trainee / Foundation Level Doctor in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery:

• Applications are invited for Core Trainee Level and Foundation Year 2 Level Doctors in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.

• The job is an evolved role involving best inpatient care for both trauma and elective patients, theatre attendance and clinic experience and management of emergency referrals including trauma calls (with support from the team).

• On average, the total number of hours each week will be a maximum of 48 hours, on a full shift pattern with an out-of-hours on-call commitment. The post will be offered for a twelve month fixed term period and may be extended dependent upon service needs.

• Friendly and supportive Consultants willing to guide doctors with their requirements and competencies for entry into Core / Specialist / GP training as well as potential to be promoted onto the Registrar rota.

•Opportunities to carry out audits/quality improvement and research work with view to gaining peer-reviewed publications.

• Close links to London (38 minutes to London Victoria by Train).

The main responsibility of this post will be the best inpatient care of both trauma and elective patients, although there will be an additional expectation of theatre attendance and opportunity for clinic experience. This additional experience will be facilitated by the on-going development of the dedicated Orthogeriatric service and the team-based approach to inpatient care.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop expertise within a supported environment and consolidate experience gained during Foundation Years training. Orthopaedics is an exciting speciality this post would be ideal to gain experience prior to speciality training.

Our client is a NHS Foundation Trust, which has the largest acute trust and district general hospital in Kent. They have a proud history as the Trust was the first hospital in Kent to achieve Foundation Trust status. They continue to expand and modernise the array of services on offer to the people of wider West Kent region.

Our client is in the process of planning and building the new Emergency Village. This will involve the refurbishment of the current A&E department and the potential uniting of emergency care assessment and diagnostics. This will ultimately improve the emergency pathway and increase capacity by summer 2015.

The Trust is an Associated University Hospital with strong links to the Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical Schools.

Kent is well situated in terms of rail links with London (distance: 30 miles) and Ashford for the Eurostar (distance: 29 miles). Other areas surrounding Kent that are only a short journey away are: Chatham Rochester Maidstone All of these towns have unique attractions, and give you an opportunity to see more of the county of Kent.

The Hospital has onsite accommodation to cater for their staff who travel the distance to work here and also as accommodation for the staff who are recruited from abroad.
